Guiding Principles

• Patient self-determination, autonomy and choice: Namaste Hospice is an organization that respects the needs and desires of the patient and family before those of the health care system, staff or the organization.

• Palliation as a valid and appropriate choice for people at any stage of their encounter with potentially terminal disease: Namaste Hospice defines “palliation” as aggressive treatment of the individual experience of a disease, as distinct from aggressive treatment of the underlying disease itself.

• Patients and families as experts in determining how they will live and die: Namaste Hospice team members have expertise in their specialty areas, but are not the experts.

• A bias toward “yes”: Namaste Hospice goes out of its way to meet the unique and individual needs presented by each patient and family we serve.

• No barriers to care, growth and forward momentum: Namaste Hospice is committed to the kind of creative and expansive thinking that embraces challenges as opportunities to discover unique and wonderful solutions.
